Paintings in the Classic Tradition

Given Pemba is an South African

painter, born 18 October1971, in Port Elizabeth now He lives in Othay village Gwatyu farms of Queenstown Eastern Cape. with his wife Ellen.G

Givenpaints almost exclusively in Oils,Acrylic, Water colour, Pastel colours.working on canvas or panel. He strives to capture creation’s splendor in the landscapes of the township and rural life style, in the former Transkei His style is unique, consisting in thin underpainting and thicker finishes, rich pigments, glazes, scumbles and attention to detail. His focus is on color and the transient effects of light.

The Return of the witchdoctor has been one of Given’s favorite subjects and he has painted it hundreds of times in all seasons and weather.  He has participated in Grandfather's exhibition at the Wezandla Art Gallery in Port Elizabeth. In 2003/4/5 Given “Out of the Depths” he won the Alberton Art Competition for three consecutive years.

She's Not Eating is another of Given’s favorite painting destinations as well; its quiet beauty and cathedral-like setting have inspired many of his best paintings.

 Given as a self thuaght artist he has never had any art training.as 

He painted from photography and 

from what he sees. His art teacher was art magazines and his eyes that was more like a camera GIVEN would use those eyes when  visit his Grandfather as

he would find his Grandfather painting in his studio and still his grandfather's painting as he is still

Working on. Given would go home

and paint it finish as a young boy of 11 years he would present it to his Grandfather as he visited them.

But that was not appreciated by his Grandfather told him not to go into

his studio his stills, but Grandmother's laughed 

As he grew up Given started to be a freelance artist and a Signwriter

In 1995 His Grandfather George Pemba was commissioned to decorate the College brick walls.

His Grandfather recommended Given to the College Master that he can do those Decorassions. Given got his first Big mural job. And he was so happy to hear his Grandfather's recommendation.for the job.and on the news papers.

Like father like son,its all coming from his father Titus Keke Pemba an Artist and his father got it from his father George Pemba also was an Artist.

Given took more of his father's skills as he also Wood work, Tiling, Ceiling, Plumbing, merchanic on his cars, Electronic and Electrical tubing.

Given is planning on having an Exhibition this year.As he works hard on his Canvas.
